Our last Zurich Study Trip – what a success. UPM agreement with ETH to offer the double Diploma in 2017 Edition has been a great chance for the participants of the MAS in Collective Housing to get closer to the ETH study and research atmosphere. Students had the opportunity to travel to Zurich (Switzerland) and discover the world’s leading city for life quality, housing innovation, construction technologies and social development.

Accompanied by the program director and program manager, participants could exchange experiences with worldwide known architects during this educational, insightful and enjoyable trip. 

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TRIP

  • Guided visits with major architecture offices including , and .
  • Personal reviews and lectures at ETH with leading architects in the field of housing: , , Bernardo Ynzenga, …
  • Learning about the business development strategies in architecture with the specialty leader and ETH professor , supported by Axel Paulus.
  • Sharing experiences with architects working in Switzerland and guided visit to architecture office, placed in their project "James", where the group was kindly invited to have an apero.
  • Developing a better understanding of residential sector and bulding culture in Switzerland. 
  • Visiting outstanding examples of the recently built housing projects in Switzerland, designed by offices such as ,Ìý, , , , , ,Ìý, , among others.
  • Deep understanding of the city structure, with a visit to the city model, the places where it was found, its river and lakeside, its newest residential developments and its main monuments.

Students from the 91ÊÓƵ program have described the trip as an amazing experience and have provided very positive feedback. 
Many feel that it has enabled them to gain an enhanced knowledge of housing standards and professinal office structures which will help them in developing their business plans and getting new potential clients. They also appreciated the opportunity to interact with successful architects and professors teaching at ETH Zurich, one of the best Architecture Schools of the world. 

Such has been the success of this last Zurich study trip, that it may be repeated next year for the new intake! With only some places remaining for the 10th 91ÊÓƵ Edition, the 9th intake of this program shows already the results of the successful agreement between ETH and UPM.
