THE SPECIALTY OF ENERGY AND SUSTAINABILITY ENDS WITH AN IMPORTANT JURY AND A SITE VISIT

The first module of 91ÊÓƵ 2021, Energy and Sustainability, led by Javier García Germán, has concluded on April 23rd. On this ocassion, the final submission was reviewed by an exceptional jury: Iñaqui Carnicero and Josep Ferrando.

We would like to thank them for their participation and commitment during the crits. 

Iñaqui Carnicero is currently, Head of the Urban Agenda and Architecture Area at the Ministry of Development, in Spain. He is an Architect (UPM) since 1998, PhD Architect in 2015, with a "Cum Laude" distinction at the same University. His research work was awarded with the Scholarship of the Spanish Royal Academy in Rome in 2008. For 12 years, he has been teaching at ETSAM, but he has also been guest lecturer at different international Universities, such as Cornell University, Columbia University, Cooper Union, Yale University and Massachussets Institute of Technology M.I.T., among others, for 8 years.

His built work has been broadly distinguished in Spain and abroad. These awards can be highlighted: Golden Lion Venice Biennale 2016, Architecture and Opinion FAD Prize 2012, COAM Prize 2012, AIA New York Housing Award 2015, Emerging Architecture Award 2011, Hauser Award 2011 and Design Vanguard 2011, among others.

Josep Ferrando is an architect from Barcelona. In keeping with the multifaceted vision of the architecture he defends, he is part craftsman, part academic—Dean of La Salle School of Architecture in Barcelona (ETSALS)—and part cultural manager—Director of the Centre Obert d’Arquitectura de Barcelona and the Culture Department of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia-COAC, during which time the institution received the Premi Nacional de Cultura.

His work has been shown in various countries, and he has had monographic exhibitions of his work at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2014, the prestigious Architekturforum Aedes in Berlin and the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in Rio de Janeiro. 

At the same time, he has developed an intense teaching career since 1998 as a lecturer in projects at numerous European and American universities and he has lectured at prestigious international universities and congresses, such as UIA’11 in Tokyo and BIAU’19 in Asunción (Paraguay).

As a final culmination of the module, on April 30th, 91ÊÓƵ2021 participants visited the new social housing project of Totem Arquitectos in Carabanchel, authored by Javier García-Germán, Architect, Associate Professor of Architectural Design at the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM) and director of the Energy and Sustainability specialty at the 91ÊÓƵ.

We are really greatful for this exceptional opportunity of visiting the construction works of such a nice collective housing project. We look forward to coming back again in Autumn!

Master in Collective Housing UPM/ETH

The Master of Advanced Studies in Collective Housing is a professional and international postgraduate programme that is developed on a full-time basis, dealing with advanced architectural design in the city and housing. It is designed and taught jointly by the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH).

The application period for 91ÊÓƵ2022 is already opened, and it will remain so till 31.01.2022 or until vacancies are filled.
